Think I've found the problem: What jet size to use?

I finally got ahold of the Holley guy and he says the carb I have has #72 primary jets and that I should go a bit lower. Which ones do you all suggest: #70, #68, or #66?

This is a 750 w/ vac secondary on a pretty healthy 350 that does need to pass emmissions!

Its real hard to tell you what jets you need without knowing your engine combo and the wheather your running in.The best why I have found to get the jets right is to go down two number sizes at a time till the engine stumbles then go back up two number sizes. This is why I like the quick changes bowls because you don't have to remove the bowl to change jets.

I have experience with the Holley 03310 (750 vacuum secondary) on several engines, including a built 327 Chevy, 351W ford, and 320 Studebaker. Each were pretty hot motors, and worked best with 70 primary and 76 secondary jets. The same carb on a 454 chevy, 268H cam, Performer intake, #69 primary jets passed emissions in WA state with flying colors. However, there is a slight lean spot through the mid range. On your small block, you may need to open up the idle air bleeds in the main body 0.002" to 0.003". The idle circuits in these carbs are slightly rich for small blocks.

The guy I spoke with on the phone said I should go with smaller jets. The guy on the e-mail said: "you will need to replce the power valve, also double check your vacuum
line set up. and use a 20-95 bracket to properly align your tv cable."

I have the lines plugged off and no change. This is a brand new carb and no backfires, so I doubt the power valve is shot all ready.

As for the bracket, my tranny doesn't seem to be shifting right. I probably need to mess with the TV cable a bit.

Only drop 2 jet sizes at a time. If you go too lean the vacuum will drop and the PV will open causing a rich condition....this will confuse the h@ll out of you, like it did to me. I personally have only seen one PV blown out and this was on a circle track motor. Everybody talks about this, but it really doesnt happen often.
Also with the vac sec the air cleaner will affect the rate at which the secondaries open so dont let this fool you.
