69-327...what carb do i use???
hi, Iv got a 1969 327 and im just doing the finishing touches on her. Now i know that she's running on about 350 to 380 horse, any ideas on what size carb would run me through the back seat. Iv been told that a holly 600
would do me good but that was coming from my bro whom i am competing with.
I thank you for any help anyone...

Here's the old tried and true equation for sizing a carburetor:
(CID X RPM X volumetric efficiency(%))/3456
The formula constant assumes a 1.5" Hg vacuum drop across the carb.
So, for your 327 at 5500RPM and breathing with 100% efficiency (not likely), your engine will flow 520 CFM. Even accounting for the demand created by vacuum impulses inherent in all piston engines, a 600 Holley is plenty big enough. A properly set-up double pumper will also work, but I'm biased towards vacuum-secondary carbs like Q-Jets!
I can't help but wonder how you suppose that your 327 is developing 350 to 380 HP not having even installed a carb, much less run it on a dynomometer?

A proper answer to your question would require more details. Tell us about your heads, cam, intake, compression ratio, exhaust, transmission, gears. The factory '69 327's (along with 307's) were base-model 2-bbl engines with low compression and restrictive heads (350's got all the good stuff that year). You will have to replace most of the works to get 300 HP, let alone what you estimate.
I'm with jrr on one thing: especially for a street-driven ride, a q-jet will be the right size!
