why is there a thing not allowing my secondaries to not open?

my dad and i were playin with my TV cable, and while looking to see if my car was at WOT,, we noticed that the secondaries were BARELY open. we noticed that there is a thing on the passengers side that is keeping it from opening. it is attached to the choke....why is this there and is it on to move it so i can get it at WOT?

if you revved the car in park or neutral, the secondaries should not open that much because there is no load being put on the car. when the car is in drive and you floor it, the secondaries will open because it has to move 3500 lbs. the thing you refer to is the choke pull off diaphram. it controls the opening of your secondaries. trust me, you will feel when your secondaries are not opening.......

It's designed to prevent the secondary throttle plates from opening anytime the choke is on. It will only allow secondary opening after the choke FULLY releases. That's how it's supposed to work. It's a stupid little device, in my opinion, but that's how it's supposed to be.

It's a "warranty claim avoidance" device. Keeps people from going full power before the oil is warmed up.

Any car of mine that's had the carb apart no longer has that little device.

Oh, I'm talking about the little lever that's released when the fast idle cam drops down (what Damon described) - not the choke pull-off. You need that.
