Rods and Hangers

I have a mostly stock LG4 and I have no cash. I'll hopefully be adding a catback and along with my dual snorkel air cleaner (K&N)and hypertech chip, I was wondering if another cheap mod I could do was to change my rods and hangers (I have the Q-jet). If so, what do you think the best ones would be?

I can't say my choice is the best, I'm not a rodder by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm using AH rods with a G hanger. Very, very nice compare to stock. I bought the rods from GM and the hanger from Edelbrock.

You can loosen the secondary air valves along with the vacuem diaphram to allow them to open quicker. The AH rod is probably OK but I would prefer a CP or DR rod. They are thiner across the taper and usually will allow a crisper part throttle acceleration. If the exhaust is freer flowing, you may try CY or DA rods to compensate for the primary sides leaness. On my 79 Z28, I run the primary side lean for crisp response, and richen the secondary side for full throttle power, as that is where a majority of the fuel Delivery comes from anyway. Qjets I found are treated such as two seperate carbs, Primary/Secondary. You can adjust the APT on the primary side to slighly richen the low end. Doug Roe's Quadrajet Book on the HP Books Label is a very good source for information, along with articles I have seen by Damon. You may also upgrade the ignition w/ spiral core wires, and a CD (MSD/Crane/Holley). Anything that will increase eficency and torque will benifit you.
