Finally got my Holley.
Hey guys, I finally got a Holley carb on the weekend. It is a reman Holley 650 dual feed spreadbore PN#65-84021. As I was reading the info on the side of the box tonight, it says not for use with automatic overdrive transmission. I have an auto overdrive. Is there a reason that it's not for this tranny. The shop I bought it from didn't say anything about this, and they knew what car it was going on. Any thoughts?
There is a bracket out that will make it work fine with your tranny. 700's are very particular about the t.v. cable and Holley is just covering their butts for being sued for burning up trannies because of their screwed up linkage. Get the bracket and you will be fine Jeg's and Summit have them.

Thanks, I was hoping that was the case. I will check with the local speed shops here, they should carry these brackets.

You need more than just a bracket. There's linkage involved, too. Recent mag article discussed it, forget which one (I get Pop Hot Rod & Chevy High Performance - one of those two in the last couple of months).
Good luck with that carb in general. As noted in this thread https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=98039 , those spreadbores weren't Holley's best idea.

I read that post, but I still didn't have much choice, the original C.C.carb was fried by the previous owner, he had removed the original distributor and put in an older style with the vacuum advance and then just wired in the carb from a power source under the hood, don't ask me how, my mechanic finally discovered the problem. It was dumping fuel at an unbelievable rate.Since the distributor was gone I needed to go to an aftermarket carb that would fit under the hood. Being as no one could tell whether or not a carb with a 3/4" spacer plate would fit, I ended up with a spreadbore. We have very strict emmissions testing up here, and everything must appear stock, ie...air filter, egr,air pump etc.Unless I modify the internal parts of the engine and have documentation to prove such work was performed.
I talked to Holley tech and they gave me the part # 20-95.

I think you need p/n 20-35 as well.
Not sure how much you paid for the carb, but as bad a rap as the CC parts have gotten over the years, you probably could have picked up a working carb/distributor set for less.
Water under the bridge, I suppose. Hope it works for you.

I paid $470 CDN (about $300 USD),with tax, for the carb, chromed gas line kit,in-line clear view fuel filter and the tranny kick down bracket.
So five7kid, are you saying that i should have gone back to C.C.carb setup. I maybe could have got a carb and distributor from a wrecker, which wouldn't be guaranteed to work properly, but to buy new would be extremely expensive. Besides, who knows what the previous owner did to the ECM.
I have been trying very hard to come up with a solution to my problem, and when I talk to so many speed shops, they tell me so many different things, but they all had one thing to say about the C.C..."get rid of it"! I am a novice to carbs, but when that many( and it was alot of shops) say that, then I would think that it means something.
No offense, I am just curious as to your reasoning. I am always open to advice and/or critizism(in a positive way

In your situation, I don't blame you. CC was new in Canada in '87, unlike the US, so the reaction to it was about 6 years delayed in Canada vs. US.
I want to help people avoid disappointment by changing things that probably aren't their problem - blaming CC when something else is the cause, for instance. But, you were missing parts (and like you said, who knows what else they did), so go ahead and take it from where you are now.
An aftermarket intake manifold that will accept the square bore Holley, and a "normal" square bore Holley would probable have produced better results for you. Go ahead and work with what you've got now, the vacuum secondary spreadbore Holleys weren't as bad as the double pumpers.
Have you done something to get your TCC to lock up?
