i got a 83 z,got the quadra**** carb, now heres the problem, sometimes my choke works n sometimes it dont, after the car warms up n what nut the idle goes to 500-600 rpm, sometimes when i tap the gas or rev the motor it goes to 1500 2500 rpm n wont go down, in order to shut my car of the idle has to be low.. if the idle is high then my motor will go "cu clunk ca clunk etc. etc. so what i have to do is hit that litle piece on the left side of the carb to make the idle go down, can n e 1 help me?
Ok..sounds like your choke is sticking. It is probably either your choke pull off valve, or the choke linkage just needs some WD-40 and a cleaning. Q-jets need a lot of attention to stay running good, but I still have mine pushing 400HP...so they can and will work good with some TLC. A choke pull of is only around $30, and if your linkage is worn, then head to the junkyard to get a new one for real cheap. They will probably have your pull-off as well for a lot less. While you are there, grab some DR secondary rods and a lighter hanger to boost the WOT aspect of your car.
