Holley DP vs. Avenger
Holley DP vs. Avenger
I'm building a 383 (about 400 HP) and am at a decision point on a Holley carb.
750 DP mech secondaries and manual choke vs. the new 770 Avenger, or mabe a DP with electric choke?
I want to be the first one to the grocery store but if my wife (on a rare occaision) takes it in the morning, I don't want to go out and start the car for her and then have her late for work, with a finicky DP.
BTW it will be a daily driver and we live in Mickigan not Florida or So Cal.
Would there be a noticeable difference in ET's at a bracket race?
I'm actually older than the Holley DP'er and I know there are a lot of strong opinions out there. I just don't have any personal hands on experience with one.
Would appreciate your comments.

For all out power, the Holley 4779 750cfm carb. For more streetablility, electric choke, vacuum secondaries, the Avenger would be the one. But the 770 may be on the big side. The 670 is what Holley recommended to me.

You should make your decision about DP vs VS based on your transmission type. If automatic, go VS. Properly tuned, you won't see any difference in ET.
The "finicky" part really isn't the DP but the choke. For a street driver, electric makes a lot more sense than manual, although trying to run a cool engine down the track can mess with an automatic choke (I just tie mine open with a twist tie when at the track - but that's a divorced type, not electric).
I don't know your wife, but I've been pleasantly surprised how adaptable the women that I know are. For instance, the first time my wife drove a stick was on our honeymoon - didn't kill it, didn't grind the gears, didn't over/under rev, etc. And, it had a DP with manual choke...
