Anyone know the hp gain with a K&N? Not what the company claims, I'm wondering if anyone has some real dyno results. With/or without open element cleaner?

The K&N I had fit into the stock air cleaner and was pretty much a waste of money. Since you have the open-element i suppose most of the power that you notice is from the open design of the air cleaner. I guess the butt dyno gives the open element 7hp tops, filter 1 hp

Your butt-o-meter must have a malfunction because mine clearly gave me:

Open air element - 7.2HP
K&N filter - 0.8HP

Get yours checked out by a dealer or return it back to Jegs!

So basically, I should have spent my 40 bucks on something else?

Give this man a prize! I guess it ranks in there with MSD boxes, chips, high voltage coils, 8mm wires, 160 thermostats, and the like. Not going to hurt... not going to help much either. If you need to replace the stock, might as well go with it then.

Well the butt dyno also doubles as a ricter scale, during release so it might have still been changing modes that thing sure stinks

Ah, its ok though. One thing to be said about K&N is the reuseability. Ive had mine for a year, and I'm gonna buy the recharger kit for it. At least I wont have to worry about buying a new filter again.(not that its a huge worry, but one less worry is worth a lot when it comes to cars.)

My K&N filter was the first mod I ever bought for my car about 5 years ago. I also got a thermomaster chip and 160 stat at the same time and received a 12.4 HP gain with the open element and chip/stat. I also put platinum plugs in too...so that could be a very small part of it as well.I even put one in my wifes Mazda 626. Just the fact of never having to replace it again is worth it. If you don't get a gain you notice with your K&N consider this....you may need to open up the exhaust side of your car as well, and adjust fuel pressure/delivery up to compensate for the added air your engine is getting. I am sure you will notice a difference if you get everything dialed in right. Even if you get only a 7 HP gain, that is very cheap HP. $5.71 per 1 HP roughly. And no I am not a K&N salesman, just a satisfied customer for over 5 years.
