Vert Fuel float & tank removal
I have a 92 RS vert, had a 91RS hatchback prior to this one, I have a flaky fuel gauge, deosn't register correctly, I'm hoping it the gauge or contacts to the gauge cluster, not the float, I had to replace the fuel pump in my 91RS and it was a nightmare removing the tank.
Does anyone know if the fuel tank set up on a vert is different then a hatchback, I'd appreciate any comments at all.

yes they are, the fuel filler neck is not flexible at all and reqiures just about everything to be removed around the tank to get it out. replacing mine with a 4th gen tank that has a rubber neck and the right fuel pump for the LS1 swap. i have the tank now and it is very close in size and dimension to a 3rd gen tank. the 99 and later ones (i have a 99) are also 18 pounds lighter too as a nice side benefit. they 're plastic instead of metal.

It is easier to remove the tank if you pull out the rear end and exhaust system. The trick is to drop the passenger side first while rotating the tank roughly 90 degrees so you can get the filler neck out withut damaging the solder joint. I did it solo using a floor jack and wood block to help support it. Run the tank low of fuel, then remove the fuel filter and run a rubber hose from the fuel line into a small gas can. Run a jumper wire from the positive terminal of the battery to the fuel bypass terimnal (a red wire with a black connector on it located on the passenger side poking out of the wire loom just to the rear of the strut tower). This will energize the fuel pump allowing you to drain the last remaining bit of fuel out of the tank. Replace the fuel pump too while you're at it.

Yep, my fuel gauge moves very slow when I fill it up. No problems from E-1/2 but from 1/2-F it must take at least 90 seconds for it to register full.
Im living with it for now, because I dont want to have to go through the pain to fix it.
If someone knows of an easy fix let me know.

Strange didnt drop the rear, just some of the parts. Panhard and few other things. Also dropped my exhaust. Word to the wise though make sure you get ALL of the fuel out. I didnt and slightly bent the filler neck getting it out. Also dont get a fuel pump from autozone, mine started buzzing the first day! Also if you are getting in there I would also replace the fuel pump. Remember it is 12 years old already.

lol, my first camaro was a 85-IRock, may it's soul rest in peace
.... well one of the previous owners did a crap job installing the previous fuel pump, so it blew on me. I whent to see how to take it out, and notice that he/she had cut a 1'x1' hole in the panel
below the hatch to pull it out w/o even getting under the car. I whent ahead and tried it that way too (since it was allready riuned and i didn't really have the equipment to drop the tank... i was 17)..... well, i don't recomend it, but we got it done. but technicaly it wouldn't be that hard once the hole was cut.... but again... i really don't recomend it...lol
