Glass Rear Window Fold Down: How is this Different?
Posting frenzy... sorry 'bout that.
On the Topsonline.com site, the top I am looking at with the glass rear window has the following disclaimer:
Note: Non original hard glass requires special handling when folding top down.
Anyone have experience with this "specail handling"? How is the procedure different than with the plastic rear window?

Looks sharp. Is that a "topsonline.com" replacement?
How does it fold down? Just as easy as with the plastic window?

I just bought a new top with the glass rear window from topsonline.com. It takes a few weeks for them to make the top. I have not had it installed as of yet and hope to do so sometime this week or the next.
I can say this.... the top looks great and the quality is top notch!! They told me you have to raise the rear of the top about 2" while folding the top down... the weight of the glass will create a natural fold so it won't break the glass. Once you do this about 5 times... the top will build a memory and fold in that area from there on and you don't have to raise the rear of the top anymore.
I'd also suggest getting new webbing if you are replacing the original top. my webbing is shot and turns to dust once you touch it. The webbing protects the top brom the metal bows and keeps the top from ripping, or at least from rubbing on the metal causing premature wear.
I've heard some guys on here install their own top and it takes them about 8 to 12 hours to do. Myself.... I'd rather have someone install it than ruin the top if I made a mistake and got it too tight.
Out here in Cali where I live..... I've goteen estimates in the $350 to $400 range to install and it takes about 2 to 3 days for them to do it.
Hope this answers some of your questions.
The guy from topsonline told me he sold a top to a guy in Switzerland with the glass. And they also know about the thirdgen site, but sorry to say.... no discounts are offered.
I'd definately do business with them again. The top is made by EZ-ON tops which I've heard are very good tops.

I got the ez on top with the glass window for my 88 IROC.
The glass window is smaller than the plastic.
The difference in folding down the top with the glass window is that you have to unlatch and fold your rear seats forward to get the top to go down. If you don't, the glass window hits the top of the back of the rear seats.

Awesome guys... thanks for the information.
Did you also replace your weather striping at the same time or was your old rubber still in good enough shape?

i replaced my top a year ago and replaced all the striping. i would definetly replace it if u use your car as a daily driver so u have no leaks when it rains.

Seems like a posting frenzy, but alot of times, when I'm driving or messing about, I think of topics related to my car that I feel would have been helpful to me, so that's what I choose to post. Anyway, earlier I had saved another set of shots of the glass window, it requires you to establish folds around the glass so that they become a pattern it natural adheres to, so care is taken in the initial stages of lowering and raising the roof. I think that covers it (expressed better above, I chimed in for the pic :-)). For the weatherstripping, the door-window jam ones are listed at premium prices in my mind, in my Fbodymotorsports catalog (ordered thru them on eBay and got the catalog. Nice people though)

It might be they all have, but I've only got the one refer. photo from this site, posted WAY, way back. They may be hard to get or too spendy for most, so they are avail, but I preferred to just keep it plastic, more viewing area

Those pics he posted were of my 88 Sport convertible. Yes I bought the glass window from TopsOnLine.
It DOES indeed take a little bit of special handling. Had it for over a year now and the top will not go down or come up if the backseat is latched in the up position. The back seat needs to tilt forward just a little to get it to go down.
The first few times you put it down, you want to "force" it to fold just above the window. Other than that, I love it......
No special care of the plastic window...normal glass cleaner....
Thought about getting it tinted...may do that eventually.
No there is no defog option...but using the rain-x window cleaner helps a lot with that. Oh and the glass window adds $100 to the cost. IIRC it was 399 for the glass top and 299 for the plastic vinyl window
More pics of the car here....
