Rhinolining the floor?
I was near my car this weekend and ripped out the carpet. The floor was in good shape except for a couple small spots of surface rust under the paint. I was thinking of using the spray-on rhinolining on the floor before reinstalling carpet. I thought it would be a good noise insulator and protect the floor from rusting in the future. Has anyone done this? I don't think it would cause problems as long as I got all of the rust and moisture off first. Is this a good or bad idea?

I almost rhinolined my floor. but then I discovered POR15. I recommend you go with that it'll help strengthen the floor back up and it will never rust again.

basicly POR 15 turns rusted metal rigid again. I saw it on an episode of Horsepower once. they took a piece of rusted steel, painted POR 15 over it and after it dried they beat it with a hammer and it didn't even dent. the stuff is amazing. if you put it directly over rust it will prevent it from rusting ever again. I havn't tried it on rust though. but I used it on the top and bottom of my new floor pans and I had my frame coated in it. It gets a little expensive though. about $100 a gallon. a quart goes a long way though. I did both sides of my floor pans with only a quart. so just buy it by the quart that way it won't dry out on you too. and just a warning...don't get this stuff on you...it takes months to wear off...seriously....I got some on my hands, and I scrubbed at it for almost 2 weeks before it was gone. a little bit that was on my arm wore off in about 2 months.

OK the both options look good, now if I had more time and $. I think I am definately going to do one of the two before I put in carpet I just don't know when it will be.
As for the weight issue, I really don't care as rust prevention is my main concern.
I will have to use some of that Por15 on my landie in the future. I just sanded out some surface rust and painted in my door sill/wheel well this weekend, thankfully the rest of the car is aluminum.

there are other products that require less prep and are as effective as por-15. Personally I'm using a product called Rust bullet just because it's cheaper, easier, and just as effective.
