Dash creaking noise

I have an 88 convertible. The dash corners creak and it is loud. It sounds like metal on metal. It is stock, no sfc. Any clues??

Re: Dash creaking noise

If you remove the dash pad (takes 2 mintues and ~1/2 dozen screws). Is the noise gone? Then you've discovered what's doing it and can take steps to get rid of the noise.
If it's still doing it, then with the dash pad removed, you would now get a better look at what it might be.
For better accuracy in determination and for safety's sake, go for a drive with a friend and have him/her investigate while it squeeks. Try narrowing down the area it's coming from. Then see if there's anything loose or rubbing. Try putting pressure on the area to see if it goes away.

Hope this helps. It's hard to be specific because there's no one typical situation for this.
