Hi guys, I just picked up a 91 Z28 'vert and have a quick question regarding a couple of items.
The rear deck spoiler (Center piece)...is it any different than a t-top or hardtop one? I am lspecifically ooking for a 3rd brake light and having trouble finding out if I need one specific to a vert or any old Camaro center piece from a spoiler will work.
Thanks in advance.
Dave

The 3rd brake light for 88-92 camaro verts should be the same as any 87-90 hardtop or t top camaro with the center spoiler brake light. The actual center spoiler piece is specific for a vert

82roc I will have to disagree with you, the third-brake-light is also specific to our verts. You see, the non-vert light will fit and bolt-on to the verts but the housing is a little off and will not flush, I have this minor problem on both of my verts.

Im not going to argue with you as I have seen what you are talking about. However I have a spare 3rd lite from a 92 camaro vert and it is identical to the ones from a non vert.I dont know why there is a fitment issueOriginally Posted by toplessrss

Honestly i have no clue why that is because by visualy comparing both they are identical.

I have 3 decklid spoilers from verts, 1 from a 90, one from a 92, other year unknown, the unknown and the light housings fit better than the 90, as far as I know all have the original equipment - thank you GM!!!

The spoilers on the '91 and '92 model year convertibles is SLIGHTLY different than the spoilers on the '90 and older cars. As-such, the HMSL’s are also SLIGHTLY different. This is because GM changed several parts on the car starting in ’91 specifically to test a new structural body adhesive (this was alleged to have started halfway into the 1991 model year). They did this because they wanted to change over to a one part air-cure adhesive vs. the 2-part reactive adhesive that had been used prior to that (2-part adhesives are difficult to handle, messy, and provide inconsistent results depending on age, mixture ratio, cure temperature, etc...). GM thought that if this new adhesive worked effectively on the overly-flexible bodies of the third-generation convertibles it would be more than sufficient for the fourth generation cars it was intended for. (In other words, late model third-gen cars were in essence used as testbeds for materials being developed for fourth-gen cars.)
As a result, the HMSL's on the '91 and '92 convertibles are about 2.0mm different than the ones used on the pre '91 cars (even though they look identical).
BTW: the adhesive performed as expected and provided some modest improvements in body rigidity on the late ’91 and ’92 model year cars.
