89 convertible rs

looking at a 89 conv. rs nice car all there 160.000 miles good body no rust. i was told to stay away from a conv.due to top problems can anyone give me some advice ,i really like conv. camaros ,but do not want to make a mistake,help please $3000.00

If it's a later model thirdgen (which this is) it seems to be a little easier.When you open up the driver side door,on the door jamb there may be an ID tag on where the conversion was done.If it's not there inside the car see if there's and ID tag on the front bow.

As long as there's an ID tag on the conversion company it makes it 1000x easier to get the correct top.

If there are not markings you only choice may be having a custom one made at a trim shop,using the original as a template.

an 89 should be an ASC conversion, that is the most common and only GM-authorized one. It was available from 87-92. The top will be easy to find for it, and the only time I have ever heard of problems with the top was when something was broken on it. I've had my 91 Z28 vert for a couple years now and the only time I ever had a problem with the top was when one of the flip rods lost a nut; I replaced the nut and it's been smooth as silk since.

whoever told you is not as informed as they should be - buy what you want and like - althogh 3k sounds a little hi for that many miles unless most has been redone

Buy what ya want. $3000 is not all that high for a vert that is at least all there. There are fewer RS models made in '89. When I was 18 I would not have bought a 1955 2 dr 150 sedan Chevy on a bet. Now I wish I had a barn full.

My 89 rs came equipped with 2 bullet holes in the passenger side. Rescued from the south side of Chicago. Had been stolen at least once and had the remains of neons underneath. Been rough road but she will shine again..

post some pics of it. i got my for $1500 and it had lots of issues. fortunately i have had a few parts cars and this forum to refere to for information and help.
