86 Autoform Vert Questions

This isn't so much of a 'reply' as it is a new question to the board.....

I've looked at the questions here - and responses, but still confused..
So I apologize if I'm not using this site correctly.

I have a 1986 camaro convertible. It's the sports coupe I believe. (It says Multi-Port on the fender)... 2 seater - reminds me of the batmobile.
I inherited it from my mom 10 years ago - and I still have it.
Rarely drive it (it has less than 30K miles)...

Anyway, I would love to know it's history. My mom purchased it in NJ - and I've even contacted the original dealer (twice) and have never received a reply from them...

Did chevy make it at the factory - was it sent out - how many were made?

When it is driven - so many people ask questions and I really don't have any answers for them.

Am considering selling it - but would like to know more about it.

I've been on other forums and no one has been able to help me, hopefully someone out there knows.

Any help would be great....

Thanks

Caroline

Re: '86 ASC Camaro Convertible???

If it's a 2-seater then it was built by AutoForm. Number built is unknown, but from '83-'86 I have seen estimates of about 500 to 1000 total. The Chevy/Pontiac dealer would order a Camaro/Firebird from GM, then have it shipped to AutoForm for the conversion. It was then sent to the dealer for a customer or as a traffic generator for the sales lot. These are considered "dealer options", not "factory convertibles". We'd love to see a photo if you sare to post photos of it. You might find a buyer of it right here.

Re: '86 ASC Camaro Convertible???

Thanks so much for replying so quickly. That's the most information I've received in all the years I've had the car! So helpful....

I'm not computer literate, but I will try to post a picture.

It's still in pretty good shape, drives great, but the top is caput. It's canvas (reminds me of a boat cover) - snaps on back off car, etc. Torn where it snaps to car, but can't find anywhere in Virginia to repair it.

Thanks again - and I'll work on that picture..

Re: '86 ASC Camaro Convertible???

I have an 84 Camaro autoform and my canvas top was completely gone when I got it.I had a custom shop make a new top from scrath and it turned out real nice.Pretty much any good custom or top shop should be able to fix your top.

Re: 86 Autoform Vert Questions

I wonder if these ASC would ever be considered a collectible? clearly the values of them depends on what someone would pay for it. regular z28 for 5k all day long, so one of these (in my opinion) would be higher. They are rare, thats for sure
