You know, not until you mentioned it....I would assume that the body was originally built as a T-top before ASC got to it. Neat little bit of the car's history, eh?
So was this actually a build sheet or a trim sheet?TTOP350

SPID sheet for the 1992 TA Convertible

Quote:
The master buildsheet has the dealership information as well as all of the RPO codes and their definitions. You have, what I believe is, called a trim sheet. It's not quite complete with all RPOs codes. I have the same sheet for my 1992 TA Convertible. I also show CC1 and Conv below it.Originally Posted by TimeTraveller
I think it might be a trim sheet, but here it is with the SPID. TTOP350

JT. you can post my rpo codes when you want if you have time. Thanx
Thanks, Tony. I uploaded the SPID sticker in your post above.
It was great to learn on this WS6 topic, through the various people posting here contributing.
I suppose I'll ask a dumb question. Anyone have 4-wheel discs on their 1991-1992 convertible? A check on the SPIDs posted here show we've all got drums in the rear. That's something else I'm missing and wondered about.

From that site, apparently all of the 1843 convertibles that they have listed 1843 have J41... So chances are, none had rear disc brakes...

John, I noticed that the other day myself. Interesting. Questions aside, that resource has it's value and I felt this answer was fairly conclusive.Originally Posted by okfoz

I thought the shortage was in 1991, not 1992
I have read a few places stating "1991-1992".
1992 Firebird and Trans AM
Of the 22,334 vehicles in our database matching the year and model, 21,243 have that (J41) rpo code.
*This leaves only 1091 receiving the 4 wheel disc brakes*
1992 Firebird Convertible
Of the 1,843 vehicles in our database matching the year and model, 1,843 have that (J41) rpo code.
*This leaves 0 having received the 4 wheel disc brakes*
Only 1091 1992 Firebirds, of 23086, received 4 wheel disc brakes as the rest got J41 (Drum rears). Outside of a shortage, what else could cause that such low of percentage?

According to the site, only 1051 Firebirds in 1992 got disc brakes, and only 1051 got the KC4 oil cooler, There were 828 B2L (L98) cars and 750 LB9 cars in the database... There were 40 cars with the Aluminum drum rear (J42) so some cars did get them, but not many.
Some other numbers
354 Y84's,
1056 WS4's
Its not too far off from what I would expect from those engine numbers, keep in mind that the site is missing 5% of the cars...

I might be stupid here, but it still doesn't quite add up to me. If 1991 was the year of a disc brake shortage (which has been said often), notice that more 1991 Firebird and Trans AMs had J65 than 1992?
1991 Firebird and Trans AM: Of the 47,612 vehicles in our database matching the year and model, 3,474 have that (J65) rpo code.
Of course the database for 1992 is less complete, which skews the comparison, but it still looks off to me.
You are right the database is far from complete. You did some homework to conclude that 1990 was complete, and the figures you provided for 1991 and 1992 are close to being complete:
The 1991 database is roughly 96% total production as there are 47,612 in their database and our tech articles show there was 51,184 total production. 1992 database is roughly 86% total production as the database shows 22,334 and our tech articles show there was 27,569 total production.

Actually the Coups and verts are seperated, so you have to add the verts into the total...

John, I'm aware (and you are correct - of course) that 1991/1992 have the Convertibles separated in the database as I discovered that myself and noted it in the History forum. You are right that I made an oversight in total figures in the 1991/1992 database side as I forgot to include the Convertibles into the totals. I used the figures here on TGO for comparison of completeness. Originally Posted by okfoz

Given 1991 and 1992 Convertibles show no J65, I guess it was not available on the Convertible and had nothing to do with any disc brake shortage? When you went as far as checking on engine options, it does make more sense. I guess that since 1990 and 1991, despite that was through a rear disc brake shortage, had more J65 equipped Firebirds, that's all I was really looking at.

Hey Tony, are you going to bring the new convertible on the next FAST cruise? It would be cool to see it in person on the River Road cruise in the spring.
Also, is that red car with the Ronals yours? And is it a real Firehawk? If so, I didn't know you had one!

Very nice car. Looks pretty rare too, considering it's a 92 Trans am JY 'vert. Regular 92 trans ams are hard to find; let alone your car. I bough a green 91 trans am 'vert back in august from a guy in New Hampshire (i'm from CT) that needs some work (has factory CD too!). Hopefully I'll have it looking good by the summer. So what exactly is wrong with your car? Are you gonna do a build thread on here?

Maaco job? uh oh! Haha I was wondering why there was yellow paint on the ASC sticker. Speaking of which, where is it located on the car? I didn't see that sticker on my 91. Good luck with all of your projects!Originally Posted by Tony Walch
