Another 3rd Gen (unexpectedly) ... Droptop this time!

Hey folks, it's been a couple of years since I posted. Surprised I remembered my login actually. I sold my '85 IROC (3,800 mile original) and my '89 Turbo Trans Am (1,200 mile original) some time ago ... Turns out I just can't lose the 3rd Gen itch!

I wanted one I could drive and modify this time around, no concern with rarity or value. Ideally a convertible with manual tranny, something I don't see every day. In about 15 minutes of searching, I found one just a couple of miles from my house.

It's this '92 Z28 that sold at Mecum back in May. I know this ad is incorrect since these were 5-speed TPI cars. The seller seems cool, just looking to unload the car since he has plenty of others. Hope to have it in my garage tonight >> http://mecum.com/auctions/lot_detail...D=SC0510-95047

Mike

P.S. I no longer have my dealer license or former collector car website, so any/all links to Mohotcars in previous posts will be broken. I'll post some pics of the '92 if I end up taking it off this guy's hands. <Fingers crossed>

It doesn't have red interior, I say go for it!

I'm a fan of red interior - Main reason I bought that silver '85 IROC actually! I remember when my Brit wife first saw just how red the interior was. I think her exact words were, "Only in America would someone put that in a car." I gave her a few examples of UK cars with red interior, but she wasn't impressed!

I went ahead and bought it ... At just over $4K for a solid convertible 5-speed, I couldn't go wrong. It sold for $9K at the Mecum auction (Indianapolis) in May '10, but it's not worth that. Solid condition, but not as good as I like them

The seller was honest, nice and easy transaction. The first thing I have to do is figure out this STUPIDLY rich condition. That knocked a lot off the price, so hopefully it's something simple ... But I won't hold my breath ;-)

If it still has the factory multeck injectors - toss them and buy any other brand.

Good news - The pig rich condition is gone ... The vert's running great now, a whole $26 and 90 minutes later. It had a bad check valve (affected vacuum) and needed a new coolant temperature sensor. My wife was giving me grief for buying a car that wasn't running, but now that it is she's thinking we should take a family cruise this weekend, top down of course!

Nice car. Welcome back to the thirdgen club. The secret to a long marriage is to know when to listen to the wife and when to ignore. Obviously you have that down to a science...
