Something about production being a year behind and the problem with chevy renewing iroc contract. I know they made these for half the year so there are about 1,300 of them. But never seen them with a 5.7 from dealership.
i'll try to find the stamp because the guy i bought it from said the dealership made it custom for him
can someone post a pic of where it is on the block?

If its the orginal motor, the VIN will be stamped on the top side of a flat pad, on the front pass side behind the A/C compressor on 88 and up serp bracket cars..
The cast stamp on the driver rear that says 5.0 or 5.7 is between the trans belhousing and dr rear of the head.. both will be hard to see or to read in the car.
car looks nice BTW

Honestly, for the price, regardless, 350, or 305, it looks like a decent deal... Throw a new top on it and drive it... From the RPO tag, it is probably not going to be a real screaming fast car, but a fun car to cruise around in.
He is asking $3700, the car needs some work, center caps, new top, and probably about 20 things you do not know about right now... Offer him $3000, meet in the middle...

There are less 1990 IROCs and less 1990 camaros in general, but Im pretty sure tehy still have a 1990 vin number because it's a 1990 year model car. The contract ran out when 1990 rolled over, so they built half a year's worth of 1990 models in 89 (VIN numbered at 1990 models) and as soon as 1990 rolled around they started making 1991 models.Originally Posted by markmutko

The sticker shows that it's a 305 not a 350, but if you are trying to see if it's been swapped then look for the block stamps as mentioned above. Looks like a good deal.Originally Posted by markmutko

LB9 on the sticker says it all, originally a 305. Could be a 350 now though.

Sheesh- you fellas are really beating this guy up on the 305/350 issue. Either is good, if indeed its a 305, which is no big deal, he can swap one later on down the road if power is an issue. The car is a convertible, and a nice camaro at that. Sold ! As for the build date, the new models - lets say like in this case- a 1990 almost always start right after July(summer) shutdown at the plants. (this can be 2 weeks to a month long) Hence, a Sept 89 build date is a 1990 model, as Oct, Nov and December builds are all 1990s right up until the next cycle. This is FACT.

We're not beating him up on it? It's called educating.
The badges are yellow inside. I just found the stamp. It is a 5.7. It wasn't swapped it came from the dealership like that.

No offense but someone swapped it in. You can't argue with the vin and the rpo sheet. It was originally a 305 and if you say it has a 5.7 then it was swapped in later. This is no special order thing.
