Though I understand that $$$ can sometimes be an issue, these cars deserve the best we can afford to give them ya know!! As for the vinyl slash glass debate I know there is a thread on here that says we wouldn't be able to do glass do to the way our top folds into the back. It would break, if I remember reading the thread correctly. You can check out some threads on it and see if there have been some strides made on the issue.
I believe the main support for the top is made of forged aluminum and depending on where its broken it should be able to get repaired, I would consult ted on that as well. He might even have the part on hand.
Good luck with your build and be sure to post plenty of pics like I did with my 88 vert build.

I got mine from topsonline.com Shipped great, fit great and looks great. I got the glass window cause I wanted to tint the windows.

As for welding it back together. Good luck, it looks like the were just made out of cast aluminum with some machining. Prolly better off finding another frame like I did and mix/match parts to get a good working top.

Did you put your top on or have it done? And the broken piece is like the flat bar that comes up from the quarter panel so were gonna try it

Re: acouple newbie vert questions
If you discover you can't repair the top, contact me. I can supply one from a used convertible frame.

I agree with what Lon said.
Take a pic of the broken part and send it to him. I'm sure he has something kicking around.
I did it myself. Took me about 20 hours total to do it. 10 replacing/fixing/painting the frame and another 10 to instal it. Believe me I wasn't rushing at all. Just took my time to do it one summer weekend (along with a few beers!) lol
