Umi subframe connectors

Just finished up putting in umi subframe connectors on my 92 Camaro convertible. The backs where they meet the lower control arm mounted up fine but the front needed all kinds of adjustments. I had to heat the metal and bend it so it would meet the frame then Weld. nothing lined up really as I thought it would. Especially that little piece that goes on the passenger side over the exhaust I had to heat the metal on the car in Bend it so it would kind of fit. Has anyone else had this problem ?????? Or am I the only idiot

Re: Umi subframe connectors

I haven't gotten to the point of my restoration where I am ready to install them yet but I did get under the car and fit them and they "seemed" fine. Very possible that your car had been torqued a little bit or in a fender bender. Do your doors open and close easily? Any sagging marks on the ground effects from the doors? Are the front fenders bowed outwards from improper jacking? Fenders, doors and hood's sheet metal is all still aligned? It's also common that members have to jack up or weight down parts of the car to correctly line things back up. Just driving it on a four post lift and installing them (or likewise just putting the car on jackstands) sounds good and logical but isn't the best way.

It'll probably be the end of next month, I want to finish the welding on the engine bay before tackling the underbody.

Re: Umi subframe connectors

Mine is a T-top car but mine went in fine with no issues. Only had to unbolt the exhaust to mount them.

Re: Umi subframe connectors

I called umi they said it is a common problem with them not lining up in the front due to the car not being made all exactlythe same and overtime some twisting and bending may make the install go in a lot more difficult especially that little piece which he said they are thinking about not even putting it with the kit
