New convert top - where do the brass grommets on the elastic connect?

Two years ago, the old canvas on the Formula was just worn out - and the rear window was opaque. Friend of mine who runs a trim shop installed a new top, did a pretty good job.

Other than it being a bit stiff to lower (not unusual) there are two brass grommets on elastic bands inside down near the corners of the top. Didn't have them on my original top... probably why those corners always looked a bit wrinkled.

Did later builds have some sort of bolted or welded-in attachment that used these snaps to keep the corners down nice and snug?

Never heard of them. Maybe you could ask the manufacturer of the new top and see if they knew. Possibly necessary on a Camaro but not a Bird?
