Re: Hawks Convertible Header Panel

I have one on my 89, it is an 8 out of 10, better than the cracked one I had. The only thing is it is more glossy than the original... I need to paint it semigloss, but never have.
If you can find a perfect used original, that might be a better way, BUT those are hard to find.

Thanks for the feedback. It sucks that the sheen is different. I’ll hold out as long as possible for an original one.

I got the very first ones off their molds... With that said, I just got a set of the seat belt cap covers, and the sheen is spot on. I suspect they may have corrected the sheen issue. As my parts are 10 years old.

Re: Hawks Convertible Header Panel

I have one sitting in the garage, haven't installed it yet. I bought it along with new plastic that goes on the top of the door panel along the window, sill panels and dash. All of the reproduction pieces that have the haircell texture are different from stock under close exam. If you are just looking at it from a standing height at a car show it is unnoticeable but if you put an original and a reproduction side by side and really look you can tell it's different.

The header piece isn't really expensive but if it is cracked and still stable I would just put some plastic epoxy on the crack and cover the panel in black leather or leatherette. I did that with my original header panel since it was cracked and it looked great. The fire ate it though.
