So I messed up the other day and backed into my 89 Iroc convertible and caved in the drivers door, Actually it was 1.5 years ago and I was so bummed I just parked it in the garage and let it sit. But now I got the bug to fix it and luckily the door was the only damage. I had two shops look at it and they say the door cant be fixed and a replacement door was needed. I picked up a used door that's in great shape however when pulling both doors apart I noticed the reinforcement bar on the inside of the doors are not the same. See attached pictures.

My car the convertible has a round reinforcement bar and the donor car has a rectangle channel bar. Does anybody know if this is just a year thing or did the convertibles have a different door than hard top/t-top cars? Dont want to put time and money into this door if it's not going to work. Sad thing is my car has never been wrecked or painted Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

 

It's a year thing. My 87 has the stamped wide bar, my 91 has the round tubular, the 89 door I've got laying around is tubular... As long as the triangle seal at the front is the same, it should work OK if you don't mind it's "different". When you get into the early years, the triangle seal bolts in differently.

 

Ok thanks for the info, I'll probably put this door on for now but will keep on the look out for one with the round bar. Nobody will really know except me but it just doesn't seem right being different for some reason. Thanks!
