I recently bought a 1987 Camaro Convertible as a father-son project. Having restored several other muscle cars from the 1960's I'm familiar with researching and hunting unique parts for lower production cars. Admittedly when we bought the car, we had no idea how special it was, but a little digging and we're finding the car is quite rare - ours being a fully loaded Z28 as well as convertible 20th Anniversary model. While the car is in great shape for its age, I believe we are missing a few pieces and I had some general questions regarding build information as well. For starters is there any build information available from ASC? If so, where could we go to get this? I believe I read online that ASC is now closed permanently, but perhaps someone else might have some records. As well we are finding that we're missing what I think is a tonneau device of some sort - I'm not sure if it's a manual release or not, but I was trying to find pics online of other convertibles to see what it might be. In our car it's an empty hole with nothing in it so this device is missing. I have attached a pic I zoomed from an online photo of another to show the device. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Good luck finding that slider release. It was only used on 87-88 convertibles with the rod setup.
They do not reproduce that part and finding a used one is a long shot. The only other option is to replace it with the 89-92 cable conversion setup.
