4th gen AC

What would it take to put in the system off a newer car? Has anybody ever done this?

Cause my current system leaks, and I figure over time it'll be cheaper to use the new stuff rather than the freon.

I was thinking the same thing

Mine was retro fitted to R134A but doesn't cool that well. So I was thinking of swiching to the 4th gen AC components to have better AC????? Anyone try this?????

From what other people have mentioned on the board is would be a major ordeal to switch over to a 4th gen system. You would have to cut the firewall some because I believe the heater box is much larger. People have done it though when they have swapped out to a 4thgen dash

I've got a good reason. Whenever I drive the IROC and I turn on the A/C I can feel a change in performance. I also have a 95 Cavalier that I use as my daily driver, but when I turn on the A/C I can't feel any change.
So now why would a V8 be affected so much and little 4 cyl not be affected so much. It's probably the design of the newer A/C systems. (I have no idea)

Re: 4th gen AC

old post back from the dead i know...
needed to see if anyone had actually done this?
i was thinking just use the compressor and dryer from a 4th gen all my other stuff is still good but i have a feeling the compressor is shot cause it sounds like marbles are rolling around inside of it and my low side pressure is way too high with the ac on.
a friend of mine with a 98 firebird doesnt use his since he has windows that work and t tops so he said if i helped him do an a\c delete he would give me all the stuff we took off.
so what all would be required?
