Overheating After Running Only A Few Min.
can anyone hear give me any ideas on why my engine is overheating after only a few mins. of running? first off i must say the this is a new rebuilt 305 1982 camaro and im trying to set the timming and brake my new cam in but the damn thing gets so hot before i get the chance to do anything. i checked the thermostat by boiling it in water in a pot and checking the temp and it opens at about 200-201* so thats not the problem i guess. maybe still alot of air in the system? if so should i run a hose in the radiator and run the car with the heater hose disconnected and let the system flush out the air? and would the fact that i removed the a/c system have an effect on the overheating? please if anybody has any suggestions
Did you use a new or old waterpump? Is your water pump rotating the correct direction? Can you verify that water is moving through the radiator? Pinch off your heater hose coming from the manifold or waterpump. Does the flow through the radiator increase?
maybe u are running really lean. u said u were still trying to get ur timming adjusted.. our pumps flow reverse direction.. make sure ur pump IS correct for ur car.. also make sure ur fan is working properly
ok i got my timming adjusted maybe im just overeacting 'cause after reading so many threads about our cars here i guess they were meant to run that hot. but man 220-250* seems really hot for any engine. im just afraid of blowing something under the hood. im going to install an aftermarket temp gauge and see how accurate the stock dash gauge really is. im also going to invest in a new radiator and electric fan as i dont trust my summit flex fan enough to cool the engine. how can you be sure the heater core is bad? everything is so hot under the hood and i mean everything..all hose are hotter than ****, my fan is hot, so is my flex fan blades sheesh. i still get alot of heat blowing thru my vents when i turn on the heater. :hail:
