Fan Switch doesn't fit?

I bought a Hypertech fan switch/coolant temperature sensor and when I went to install it, it didn't fit. The end that plugs into the engine was too large in diameter. Also, the connector they supplied had no where to be plugged into on the existing wire. I also have two wires near the switch- one was connected to the switch, and the other was not. The one that was not looked to be the same as the one that was connected, only broken. Any reason why I have two wires for one switch? Any reason why the thing won't fit? It says it works on 5.0/5.7L TPI Vettes, Camaros, and Birds.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Okay, here's the piece that came out of where I was told the fan switch should be. What is it? Is it a knock sensor? I thought the knock sensor was about 10 inches above the fan switch.

That looks like your Knock sensor. You Knock sensor is 10 inches below the fan switch. The fan switch is on the head itself.

It is the knock sensor. Fan switch is an all brass unit.
