aluminum radiator delima

Help! I have an 87 iroc, pulled the 305tpi, and hopped it up a little bit. I am running out of patience though..... Put in a small block 400(allegedly w/500+ horsepower), turbo 400 tranny, 9" rear. Here's the deal, I have everything done except the radiator.

I first bought an Becool "direct fit" $500+ aluminum one, and the P.O.S. was too wide, and was rubbing on the frame rail, and was so tight on it, you couldn't even get a hose on the connector (if I had tried that is) BTW, that one was 31X19"

Ok, so sent that one back, then got a griffin universal one. But, that one was too short, too tall, and not even worth paying for the overnight shipping!! I tried a 26X19".......

Ok, so then I order the Griffin "Directfit" custom one for my car @ $580 some dollars, and it's too tall!! It's not gonna let my hood shut (by the way, I don't have the hood there, got a big block hood from asc, and it's currently getting painted) but you can see that the radiator sticks up about 1/2 to 3/4" ABOVE the fender lines..... Not to mention that this was the last one of this part number that summit had, and it was damaged during shipping, and it would be 4-5 weeks before I could have one made.

I've called around, and went to the fluidyne radiator site, but nobody had my part # in stock, and will have to be custom made, with a wait time of 4-6 weeks........ Not to mention 600 + dollars!

I've noticed that alot of you guys say that you have griffin radiators for $180, but what sizes are you guys running? Could anybody take any pics, and show me? That would be very helpful!
I don't know what to try now....the shop (that's right, it's actually in a shop) wants to put my original thinny, skinny, weak-*** original radiator in there, just to see what it does..... But, after spending 6K on the (allegedly) 550+ horsepower motor, I'm paranoid, and am having grand delusions about it overheating when they take it out on a test drive, and blowing the MF up!!, or worse yet, doing some unseen damage that will come back to haunt me later on! I do have some mechanical aftermarket gauges hooked up, so I'm not too worried about that part.

I've called the gm garage, but they don't list any HP radiators for my car, and they list the same radiator for a HP 350 that goes in a stock 305......

Somebody, please help!! Please send pictures, if you have something that is working in your car. I really kinda need a drop in one, because I have no way (tools or time) to have to manufacture some kind of custom brackets, so that I can run the dual fans......

Sorry for the long post, but I don't know what to try now!

Help! Thanks in advance, digitalman

This thread has pics of my 31x19 Griffin radiator installed with custom brackets. It's just a 1/2" taller and an inch thicker than stock.

Yeah, I looked at those pics a couple of days ago, and I sent you a pm about interested in the brackets, but since I didn't get nothing back, I figured you wasn't gonna be making them.

If you're not making them, it would be great if you could post the dimensions, measurements, and the good techie stuff. I know a guy (the one who put my roll bar in & subframes), and I'm sure he could build those brackets......

In the meantime, since this radiator is the only thing holding me up now, I am gonna have them put in the original radiator with the dual fans, and see if it will do ok............

Just figure that your stock radiator was designed for a 200 horsepower engine, and you're going to have 550. I wouldn't count on it working very well. You could give it a try and just shut the thing down if it's getting hot, no big deal.
