Can anyone help me with my radiator fans???

Ok, I have an '87 305 TPI Z28 with the dual fans. It's always ran a bit too hot for my liking, and today I finally remembered to to check to see if the fans were running when I got home. As I suspected, they weren't. One fan is supposed to be running all the time, right? And the other comes on at a set temperature? Neither are running, I just checked again a minute ago(I'm paranoid). Fired her up and neither fan was running. My dad is off tomorrow and said he'd take it to a dealer for me. I said "But if it is running right, you're never gonna let me hear the end of this are you?" he said "Yep". Help me out guys, help me prove I know what I'm talking about. He's convinced it's running right cause we drove it on a long trip and it didn't overheat, he said it couldn't go 500 miles on the highway without the fans and not overheat.

Anybody???? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

teh computer controles your primary fan and the second is controlled by a switch in the pass side head. Unless both of the fan switches are shot one should come on. The secondary comes on either w/ ac or when the engine temps continue to rise w/ only the primary fan on if im not mistaken. When there is enough airflow to keep the system cool, neither fan will switch on. If you let it sit for a while, one should come on at least around 240 degrees, i beleive. If neither does come on by 245, you have a problem with the circuits that control each fan. If only one comes on, there is a problem w/ the primary fan relay. I think its unlikely that each fan relay or one fan relay and the fan switch would be dead simultaniously.
