Worried about cooling
Hey guys,
I'm dropping a 383 into my 1988 Firebird that originally had a V6...obviously I need a new radiator.
How far do I need to go to properly cool a 400HP/TQ 383 on the strip and occasional street. It wont be a daily driver, but it does need to keep cool while cruising.
I'm planning on a high performance aluminum water pump for weight and cooling efficiency, and I'll be sure to have a proper fan cooling the radiator. I am on a budget, so how far must I go with the new radiator? Would a 2 core aluminum radiator with plastic tanks be sufficient?
[Edit] Thought I'd add...my heards are aluminum,...which are better at dissipating heat and less prone to hot spots...

Mike Crew is running a 383 w/ stock radiator and a Flow Koller water pump. His car is running consistent 12.3 - 12.4's and he reports an occasional 195 beating it severly at the track and 175 in town on a 180 t-stat. The stock 2-row aluminum works great. Good Luck!
