Heat...help please, anyone
I just put in my new motor(carbed 355 400hp), and it keeps overheating. My car has factory dual fans, and I added a third under the front to help get air up infront of the radiator when stopped. I'm running a Hypertech 180 fan switch, a new water pump, and a new thermostat. I am currently kicking on all three fans at 180. I had a fuel prob, but got that fixed. The pig is still creeping up to 220-230. Thats just too hot. I have around 9.8:1 compresion, but that shouldn't be an issue. The rad was new a year ago, and it has always had good clean water and antifreeze. This thing is driving me nuts. Not to mention its my only car and I have to be 180 miles from where I am today, tomorrow by 7:00pm. The weird part is that sitting in the garage at idle, sometimes it will warm up, turn on the fans, cool, and turn them back off. Then others, it warms up, kicks the fans on, and keeps slowly getting warmer. I'm gonna try another thermostat, or maybe just a washer yet tonight. - Any suggestions?
thanks,
justin

Thanks for the responses. - I got it figured out though. This thing is a pig on fuel. It took #80' s in the primaries to get it fat enough, and I'm running a new 750 vac secondary Holley. This 375 hp carbbed small block seems to have grown quiet a bit since its original thought. Everyone's guessing somewhere around 425-450 HP at the flywheel. - one thing to say about it...FUEL ****!!!!!
