overheating
Help - I have an 89 camaro with 305, carb, auto, swapped from orig v6. A/C disconnected. Was running fine until I hooked up a vac hose off the manifold to the climate controls. Heat worked fine, but only thru defrost vents. When hooked up vac line, finally could direct heat to dash, floor, or defrost. Then engine began to overheat, then no heat thru heater. Installed new 195 stat, still overheats. Top rad hose cold. Added some coolant, as rad was low. Noticed more coolant in overflow bottle than before. Still overheated. Then installed new water pump. Added water, still overheats. Dont think any coolant is circulating...how do I know if there is air in system, a vac problem, or some other problem? If there is air in system, how should it be removed? I dont see any leaks anywhere. Any ideas?

Ah ha! I added more coolant and water, and things started working fine after the engine ran for awhile. Fan cycled on and off, heater works, top rad hose is warm, temp stays below 220. Another learning experience.
