Whitch Fan Is Whitch
I have dual fans on my car, I rigged the one on the pasenger side up to work off the fog light switch(got rid of the fog light's), I was wondering if this would have any effect on the operation of the computer??? I heard the driver side fan links to the computer, and the pass. side is just for the A/C or something. I am asking this because everyone seems to tap into the existing lines, and I just snipped mine alltogther(pass. side was never coming on).

I have a 88 formula 350. The passenger fan is contolled by the computer on my car. The driver side is controlled by a temp. switch that is set to come on at 210ish. There is another switch i can get to have it come on sooner, since i am running a 160 thermostat. I hooked an adj. temp sensor up to where the relay is on the passeneger side next to air cleaner, since it was cheaper and immediatly available. Didnt cut any wires, just put male ends on and stuck into the male plug connector and electrical taped real well to keep the weather out. I am not sure if your cars components are exactly like mine. Are you running stock thermostat? Is your car running 220 or hotter? if it doesnt the fan wont come on until it gets that hot.
Now if i understand correctly your driver side works and you hooked the passenger side up to your fog light switch. I am assuming your car componets are swapped( visa versa) Does your switch power run to the relay and then which turns the fan on? That way would be ok. But if your switch powers the fan directly i think you will have problems because i dont think your switch is made for the amp draw of the fans(smaller wire on switch then fan wire). If you are just running the fan that is controlled by the temp switch, with your fog lights it wont affect your computer.

I think it's the other way around. On my 91 350 the driver's side fan is controlled by the ECM and the passenger side fan is controlled by that temperature switch. This is used as a backup in case the main fan motor goes bad, so the car doesn't overheat. I used a wiring diagram from an 88 Formula to tap into the relay of the secondary fan, cuz I didn't want to mess with the main fan in case something were to happen with the ECM.

I just looked in my 1988 gm service manual and on a 88 Firebird the aux. fan is on the drivers side. I also read the aux. fan works off the pressure of the a/c and also if/when the coolant reaches 230 it turns on. The battery in my car is on the drivers side and i have read in some post the battery in a Camaro is on the passenger. So your fans might be reversed from mine. You might want to do a search in the Electrical board.

1988 - 1990 5.0 (VIN F) and 5.7 (VIN 8) Component locations-Camaro and Firebird.
Driver's side fan = main fan.
Passenger side fan = secondary fan.
Can't scan and post the diagram but this is what it says in my book. It's also the same for 91 and most likely also 92.

Hotrod is correct, make sure the switch controls the relay for the fan you want to turn on. Either the switch or the wiring will not handle the current the fan motor requires. If you wire it correctly and control the fan relay BOTH fans will run because the ECM will default as it sees the aux on before the primary. Thats the main problem with changing things around.

So the way I have it set up will be fine, other than the fact that I have to upgrade the wiring for the fan switch I put in????

If you want to use the fog light switch you have, hook the switch up to ground not power. Run the other wire from your switch to the wire of the temp sensor. That sensor on my car is above the starter near the #6 cyclinder spark plug(3rd back from front on passenger). That will not harm the computer because that wire runs to the aux. fan relay, which grounds to turn the aux fan on. You will be doing the same thing the temp switch does when you turn on the fog light switch.
