Shortened Hoses - Now Trouble?
I shortened the hoses that run to the Heater Control Valve, so that I could relocate the valve closer to the firewall and make room for dual air snorkel on pass. side. Very little coolant was lost during this.
Since this shortening, I noticed that my temp guage rised to a higher temp before my fan came on - I reasoned that I had lost some coolant, and therefore system had to build up more pressure before enough coolant was reaching the fan switch to activate it. I checked radiator after it was cold, and I was in deed missing coolant some coolant (about 1 quart). I replaced this directly into the radiator as well as filled the overflow bottle to the COLD mark with straight antifreeze, and all was fine again.
Now, two weeks later - same thing occurred. Checked overflow bottle while cold - empty (so it is releasing into system). So I added water this time, and drove. Still, the temp raised very high before the fan kicked on, and cooled itself again via fan. I also noticed that when stopped at a light, heater blowed cool air when settings on heat. Once home, and cooled off again, I checked radiator, and again, 1 quart low, but bottle still full of the water I added less than 30 minutes prior.
Have I messed up? Where is the coolant going? No leaks anywhere that I can see, no steam, car runs good. Just seems like every couple weeks, fluid levels decrease enough to make it take longer for cooling fan to become activated.
Any input appreciated.

I refilled more coolant into radiator, and again it runs fine and cool now (last 2 days anyway), as well as blows warm air from heater.
Normally, my guage shows 160 - right on the line. When it starts this, the guage will read warmer and warmer, on a daily basis, during that first 20 minutes of getting hot until the fan kicks in - it just seems like when this happens, it takes longer and longer each time for the fan to kick in - and then I know soimething's not kosher. Seems to be an accurate guess that when it occurs, there is missing coolant, and thus not enough coolant to "reach" the fan switch to set it off - since each time thus far when it occurs I am a little low on coolant.
I'll run it and see if it happens again. Maybe it's just a case of losing more coolant than I thought during the hose shortening, and I haven't worked all the air pockets out yet.
I'll update (and beg for assistance) if it continues.
Thanks.
