someone swaped my fan why?? need help switching it back!!!!!!
In my 87 Iroc,,,someone had installed a flexlite,,,,fan to the front of the engine. I wanted to restore it back to the single elec. fan it used to have.
So I went to the junk yard and picked up all the parts I need to swap it back.
I have some questions before I attempt this swap.
Plus I need as many tips as I can get!!!
1- First Im worried why would the old owner get rid of the elec fan all together unless it was too costly to fix it right. What are the chances it was just a bad fan motor,,,that way I could bolt up my used on and it will work fine????
2- Where is the fan relay located on my car??
3- What usually happens first (or most common) problem with a coolant system that I should really test out when Im doing the swap?
4- What temp should my fan turn on on my guage,,,I have a metric dash?
5- I heard someone say that the fan is switched on by the comp. I have a non-computer controlled carb engine,,,with a 5 speed tranny,,,that doesnt need any emissions test,,,,so technicly this is the only job that my comp. is going to do,,,how do I know if its even working properly.
6- I dont have a black under the car air dam,,,how much will this effect my cooling?? cause i dont think I can put one as my car is lowered now.
*****also maybe you can help me out with some steps I should do......this is all I can come up with now......please add to my list:
step 1 - remove old flex fan and install all elec fan and shoud.
step 2 - find the old fan connector from the car and wire fan up.(which could be cut and hard for me to locate in my car)
step 3 - test fan to see if motors working (thru grounding it out at relay)
step 4 - test relay (somehow i dont know how to do this)
step 5 - test swiches (somehow i dont know how to do this)
step 6 - let car run and get up to temp to see if fans kick in (which may be hard cause its winter out here)
thanks guys if you can help,,,,,last thing is I want is for the first week I get the car back out, to have to a$$ around with the stupid fan and waste valuable driving time!!!!
