fan clutch
fan clutch
I've been thinking about upgrading to a dual electric fan unit to replace my belt driven unit, but I was wondering if it would be easier just to install a thermal fan clutch. I admit I really don't know much about this, but I figured it might be an easier alternative. And yes, I realize that there would be no power gain under hot temps with the clutch as there would be with the electric fans.
Well?
Well?
I don't know what's in it now. The last mechanic to work on it put in a big belt-driven fan, but since it spins all the time, I doubt it has a clutch.
I went to the junkyard and found a 16" electric radiator fan for $10, with all the relays and the housing, so I think I'm just going to go that route.

A clutch fan spins all the time, but it doesn't spin as fast as the engine when it's cool(clutch allows it to slip. If you go the electric route, get the best one you can find/afford. A pair of factory 3rd gen fans(dual setup) would work well.
