Dual Fans
I have an '87 IROC-Z w/ dual electric fans.
Only one seems to work.... and thats at almost 240*...
Should that be correct?
Also, what is the second there for?
Thanks

Driver side or primary fan runs when the engine temp reaches approx 220-225 degrees or when the A/C is requested. Aux, or pass side comes on a 243 degrees and also is controlled by A/C pressure. If one or the other is not working replace BOTH the fan relays. They are a very common problem and many times work intermittently. Make sure you have an intact air dam or deflector as it is called. Without it even with the fans at full bore it will run hot at highway speed. The deflector is the primary and actually only way the rad gets airflow.

Thanks. I've seen a lot of posts with information in them that you've provided. You seem to know your stuff!
TY sir! I just replaced my radiator yesterday, and before that I had only had one fan working, and now neither fan works. I didn't disconnect either fan, although I did take the aux fan blade assembly off so I could get my hand in there to tighten the tranny fluid fitting to the radiator. I am all thumbs when it comes to electrical systems, so the first thing I'm doing is pulling the fuses to check them, all are good that I can visually inspect, but I don't know what the two 30 amp 12 volt aluminum fuses are for or if they are good. I have no kind of testing equipment. Does anyone have a drawing or link to a drawing of what each fuse is for?
btw, I let the temp rise to 240+, neither fan came on, turned on the AC, aux fan did not come on, and now the heater blows room temp air. Was thinking maybe the thermostat is messed up, do I have to remove part of the TPI to change it out?
OK, jumped the gun on the fuse diagram thing, found that answer here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...light=fuse+box
