Fan Fun
Ya, it's a fan question. And yes I have done a search and read until my brain is swolen. But I have a simple question, it may have already been answered, maybe not. Is it possible to bypass the fan relay in a single fan set up so that there is plain old power to run the fan whenever the ignition is on? I have had it set up that way by grounding out the green wire (thanks to the info from this site), but fan relays never seem to last very long and to me are useless if I'm going to have the fan running all the time anyway.
Thanks.
Thanks.

No there isn't, and here's why. You need a relay to handle the current the fan or fans draw. Thats why the engineers put in a relay. The ignition switch will heat up with the additional current load of the fans. My suggestion is to get a better relay. I got tired of the poor construction of the stock relays and I got a couple of Tyco 40A miniature relays with sockets. BOTH take up the space of a single relay. Or, try the newer GMSPO unit stocked at the dealer. They use a redesigned unit which in fact does hold up much better. Also check the relay socket contacts for signs of discoloration. If the contacts have resistance the relay itself overheats causing premature failure. I use Tyco # VF4-15F11-S01. It is a 40amp peak/30 amp continuious 12 volt relay.
