Fan shroud help cool?

My car runs at a constant 160 degrees (on my POS stock guages anyways) but if I sit it will creep up to slightly over 200 degrees.

I have a mechanical fan by no shroud. Do you think a shroud would help with cooling at idle?

Yes. The rule of thumb is that if your fan is more than 2 inches from the radiator then you need a shroud in order to successfully pull air through the rad and not around it. Your fan is what keeps it cool at idle, so it's not pulling enough air through the rad if it's running hotter. At highway speeds the air is forced through the rad and therefore runs cooler. If you are missing the stock shroud then put it back on, if it's a custom setup then put the fan w/in 2 inches of the rad and you should be ok.

I have a mechanical fan now..its probably about 3 inches away from the radiator. Im gonna get the shroud soon for function and for safety...that flex fan looks dangerous.

I need to get that so I dont cut my arm off one day.
