Temp guage dead in '91 GTA.

Hey my temperature guage in my '91 Trans Am GTA is dead / not functioning. I also have a '87 Iroc-Z and I know that the temperature is registered by a small wire on the drivers side of the engine directly connecting ( the small wire ) into the block. I had the guage in the Iroc die a couple times only to find out that this small wire had fallen off the connection from the engine block. Now , can anyone tell me if the harness in a '91 GTA has a similair wire which goes into the block?? I can't find it on the drivers side of the engine block. I am wondering wether maybe a wire does not exist externally but that the temperature is registered electronically by the computer somehow. Hmmmm? Help / suggestions anyone??

The temperature sending unit for all V-8 thirdgens locating in the driver's side head, I believe between the #3 and #5 cylinders. There should be one wire going to this unit, and if it isn't, there should and thats why your guage isn't functioning. Give a good glance over that part of the engine bay and you'll probably see it hanging off to the side near the motor mount or in that area.

KagA152 it sounds like your car is running at a good / normal temperature. Both my 3rd gen temperature guages hit the first mark ( sometimes a hairline above, sometimes a hairline below ). I don't ever think I've seen the guage ever hit the 1/2 mark.
