Can NOT Locate Fan Control Switch Module

Sorry to ask as this is kinda retarded. Basically, I can find where stuff is in my engine bay.

My 92 305TBI A4's fan will not turn on unless the AC is on. So when it heats up it just keeps getting hotter and the fan never comes on, unless my AC is on then it's on at any temp.

From my understanding the two scources of the problem could either be the Temp Sensor or the Control Switch.

I bought the Control Switch, which looks like a metal rod with a thicker threaded section with a hex nut and a round plastic top section with a lip and a whole in the top. I spent about 4 hours in 104 degree heat going along the wires and could not for the life of me find where it goes.

I'd really appreciate if someone can give me a vivid description of where it's located along with the temp sensor, just in case. Pics would be awsome. Heck, for pics I'd hook you up with my first born child.

Thanks in advance for any replies. Might be good to have some pics of this in the FAQ, as I'm sure I'm not the only spaz out there.

I to have the fan problem, only comes on when the A/C is turned on. My manual does not say anything about the control module, just the sensor. Hopefully someone can show a picture of where it's at. Found this picture of the unit.

make sure u drain all ur coolant unless u want most of ur coolant on ur driveway. My friend and I just installed my hypertech fan switch with a 160 t-stat and my car stayed at 160 deg. Hasn't gone higher even when i run my car hard.

just to help you clarify the position on the picture, is on the lower end of the passenger side head, in the middle, if that helps, and yes drain the fluid, i tried prying on it, and a few minutes later i was having hot hot hot fluid dripping down my chest, its killer
