Are your fans working right? If not ground the circuit at the temp switch. It is cheaper if it is just a switch.

Or it could be your guage...I was really worried this summer cuz the temp guage would rise to 240 degrees. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and replaced the thermostat as well. Then I went ahead and flushed my radiator. The verdict: it was still over heating...so I thought. I went to my automotive shop and school and asked to use one of those infrared thermometers. The hottest my engine got was 190 and then the fans would kick on, cooling it down to about 160-170 again. It's something worth checking out.

140 degrees? That's waaaay too cold for an operating temperature. Either you thermostat is bad, or your gauge is off. It should be running very near your thermostat temperature, unless it gets hot.
