fan switch the same as send. unit???

Pretty much sums it up. I went to get a temp. sending unit from Advanced today but it doesn't look like mine. It looks more like a fan switch. They didn't have anything at all that looked like my sending unit. I was wondering if I got a connector that would work, would this be ok?

TIA

Temp sending unit has a connector that slides on sideways, fan switch has a round post surrounded by black plastic. They are not the same, temp sender for guage has a thermistor inside-fan switch is a switch that opens and closes based on coolant temp. get the right part, try NAPA or the dealer. They are not that expensive.
