Tired of trying!!

O.K. I think my wife posted this problem a long time ago and since then, I've tried everything except the expensive stuff. Here's what I've done-a)flushed the entire system-b)Installed a new single electric fan-c)New pressure release radiator cap-d)water wetter additive-e)high flow mech. water pump-f)180 deg thermostat. The car runs fine as long as it's moving...and it cools down quickly after you get some interstate driving, but it's impossible to drive around town on a hot day. It evens reaches the point where the a/c gets hot. Anyways, thanks for the help.

when does the fan come on? might want to wire in a manual switch to turn it on.

Have you checked the usual?
Do you have an air dam?
Is your lower radiator hose collapsing?
Does your fan turn on when it's supposed to?

I'm not sure exactly when the fan comes on, but it's pretty hot before it does. Do the cooler temp switches actually help?

Change thermal fan switches, and put in a 2-fan set-up.

If it runs cool down the highway and only hot around town--really look hard at the fan. Why? The big difference between highway and town driving on the cooling system is that the fan must replace the air flow that driving down the highway gives the radiator. Also check to see that the radiator isn't blocked with bugs/grass/other crap. Better single fan, dual fan, remove hood seal(helped me anyway). Also double check the timing. A cooler temp fan isn't going to help until the fan or fans have the capacity to cool the engine.

Read Willie's article above on single fan cooling fan systems!

You may try temporally grounding fan relay. If that cures the problem, then go get a lower coolant temp switch.
