Not third gen but my 94 minivan just blew a head gasket. I guess, white smoke and antifreeze coming out the exhaust. With 300,000 miles on it, I really dont want to replace the head gasket.
Someone told me to drain the antifreeze and bypass the heater core. The add SODIUM SILICATE (water glass). Run the car and it will seal the gasket and some small cracks.

Anyone try this or have experience with this? How long will this last?

With that many miles I may try it, nothing to lose!

 

I used it in my dearly departed '67 dodge pickup. It sealed some of the minor cracks but gunked up the inside a bit too.. If you dont care about the radiator go ahead other wise, fix the gasket. I never used it on a bed head gasket tho wonder what it would do insid e the chambers..ick

 

Well it seems to have worked. I put the sodium silicate in and let the car run for about 30-40 minutes. It started to build pressure and then the white smoke stopped.

Drove it last night and a lot today, still no smoke or loss of coolant.

 

It's just a band-aid fix...you're gonna have to dig into it sooner or later so be ready.

With 300,000 miles there won't be much to dig into I know it is just a bandaid but hopefully it will last while I research an negotiate a new car. It looks much better pulling into the dealer without all the white smoke!
