cleaing radiator

Hey i want to clean the radiator to get any junk out. Any tips or tricks on how to do this. i am thinking find a remote spot and just run a garden hose through it. It was sitting with fluid in it for 6 years and there was crud around where the hoses meet so i am guessing it is bad. also some of the fins are bent and i saw a tool that can fix it from eastwood but if you guys think it is not worth it and cleaning won't get it good i'll spend the 120 on a new one. what do you think

You can try reverse flushing it. From the lower hose to the upper. If you got the other way itll just get worse.

If it's been sitting that long use Prestone chemical flush. Follow directions EXACTLY then refill system. When you refill use GM sealing tablets available at any dealer, or the powdered Bars Leak. All GM vehicles come with it from the factory, a chemical flush removes it and the tablets will help prevent failure of the water pump which happens often after a flush. I can't tell you how many times I have seen flushes done(myself included) only to have coolant seeping out of the weep hole on the water pump a week later.
