Overheating?
Hi,
I am having some troubles here and I hope you guys can help. I just recently finished a project where I used a 1969 350 engine and used Vortec heads with edelbrock intake. I put it in a 1986 camaro. I just today finished my project but it overheats very quick. I just can't seem to get it to cool off. I have a temp gun and the passenger head will read 230 and the driver side head 170 and the thermostat housing is at 140-150. I just don't get it. When I shut it off the thermostat housing will warm right up and then when I start it cools right back down again. I tried a different thermostat but that didn't help so if you have any answers please help me out. This is really irritating. Thanks MINN IROC Z

230 is the typical temp that the fans will kick on at, and the fan switch is in the passenger side head IIRC. The reason for the temp differences is that the cool coolant from the radiator is gonna start at the gooseneck, and from there go into the manifold, drivers head, and block, and pass head, then water pump and back to radiator.
If you want it to run cooler, start by getting a lower temp thermostat like a 160 or 180, then either get a lower temp fan switch or get into chip burning and change the "on" temp.
Good luck
