Heater core going bad?

Once my car is warmed up to normal operating temperature,I'll try to put on my heat, and the air coming out is luke warm. I mean the air barely feels warm. A buddy of mine said my heater core might be going. Do you guys think this is possible? Once in a while we think we smell antifreeze, but its not real strong and there's no visible leaks.

Also, if your heater cores bad, could it make the car overheat if i dont replace it?

Thanks, Al in NJ

sounds like the heater core may have a very small pin hole in it. I would replace it and the heater hoses. they are pretty cheap so what do you have to loose except a few bucks. Also your thermostat may be to cold of one. I would replace that to.
