cooling fan help please

is it possible to buy an aftermarket fan controller and connect it to the factory fans? neither of my fans will come on and I had a mechanic friend look @ it for about 45 min with wiring diagrams and said it had short somewhere, as the relay and fuses checked ok.
thanks in advance for your help

Hello Rhonda's 92 GTA,

Welcome to the board!! When your mechanic was checking everything for you, did he by any chance check the fusible link that supplies power to the fan relays. There is also a brown wire that runs from the wire harness on the alternator to the FP-FAN on the fuse panel and also runs to the fan relays. Does one of your fans come on when you turn the A/C on or when you jumper pins "A" & "B" on th ALDL panel?

Thanks for the info. I know for a fact that there are no cooling fans runnning with the a/c on. As to jumping the A & B i dont know if he did or not. I do know he jumped a wire @ the fan relay( I think it was brown) to a hot wire @ the battery and the main fan would run.

Also I'm pretty sure he check the fusible link(mounted on the drivers side by the radiator?).I know he checked something in that area

i am in the exact same boat as you. i have replaced all my coolant sensors, switchs and senders. replaced the relays, done continuity checks on every damn wire. i jump the relay it turns on. i have 12v on pins D and F, not sure if that one is supposed to be that way. now my A/C does not work so i am not evn worried about trying get the secondary fan on right now. that will be a manual switch n-e-ways. for some reason i believe my problem deals with pins D and F. why do i have 12v on both sides of a relay, i know i should have 12v at D. but F comes from the ecu. that doesnt make sense. any thoughts.
