New Universal Coolant?
Well, I saw it this last week. Looks like there is a new coolant that mixes with anything and everything.. Wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on it.. Seems kind of strange to me.

I saw the new Prestone Universal coolant at a local auto parts store this past weekend. I'm not sure what to make of it.
I tried their Dex Cool "approved" stuff for a while, but I was starting to get the "orange mud" in my reservoir tank so I flushed it this past weekend and went back to the traditioal green Prestone.
This new formula may be Prestone's answer to the Dex Cool problem, but I had no desire to be a guinea pig. I'll stick with good old green for now.
IF this new formula turns out to be good, then I may give it a try at some future date, but I'll wait until it's had some actual road time to see.
Dex Cool sounded pretty good when it came out and it does offer better protection for the metal, especially aluminum, but it can also go haywire and muck up the system pretty good.

If the new Universal formula is identical to the traditional green, then it can't really be mixed with Dex Cool. There has to be more to it.
Both Dex Cool and traditional green are Ethylene Glycol based, BUT green uses phosphates and silicates, while Dex Cool uses Organic Acid Technology.
You can add the green to Dex Cool, but you take away any benefits Dex Cool is supposed to offer. Again though, Dex Cool is a crap shoot. Some people haven't had any trouble while others have had their cooling system all gunked up.
Apparently Dex Cool doesn't like air in the system, so if you develope any kind of leak, you become a candidate for contamination. Dex Cool also doesn't seem to be living up to it's 5yr./150,000 mile promise. Some experts recommend that if you use it, change it every 2yrs./30,000 miles like regular coolant.
